New printer

I've had good service from an HP 5550 for about 3 or 4 years but it's
getting threadbare.

I bought a cheap printer from tesco in the UK but it seems very
flimsy. It's an Epson D92.

Would anyone like to recommend a good cheap printer, please?

Define "cheap" - a cheap inkjet can cost many times its purchase price in
ink over a period, whereas a reasonably priced monochrome laser used for
occasional home printing could take years to use up a toner cartridges.
What do you want to use it for..? Photos, office documents, or both..?

I use an HP2605dn colour laser but at £300 that may be more than you want
to pay. However at my level of usage the toner will last me for a year or
more.

YMMV of course.

That's when you junk the 2605 and buy a new one for the same, or
less than you would pay for toner.

Almost, but not quite, at least at today's prices. It'll last a lot longer
than yer average el-cheapo inkjet though, and give far better quality
output.

Here in Canada you can get a new 2605dn for $400 or less. Best Buy
has had them on sale for $350 and a set of 4 toner cartridges costs
about $400.

Hi,
At last I weaned myself from HP. Their ink(toner) cost sucks.
