true, but considering how often i upgrade video cards, i'm better off
buying the 256mb version...
let me see, i had a Hercules ISA 2mb, upgraded that to a Matrox
Millenium 4Mb card... which was OEM so had a slower RAMDAC than the
retail version (while working in a computer store, a business bought
a pc, upgraded the video to a twin video card (win3.x days) and so i
got the matrox)... and after that it was the Viper TNT2 which I still
use... so considering this card will, if history continues, need to
last me about 5-6 years.... i better get the 256mb while i have the
wife's attention diverted.

It's not a driver issue - it's hardware. If it was a driver issue, Nvidia
would have fixed it long ago, as they've been working on NV3x drivers for
over a year now.

Nvidia pretty much designed NV3x prmarily for DX8.1 (ie Doom 3), which is
why it is not that good at DX9. It's just Nvidia's bad luck that they
though they were big enough to dominate the direction of the market at the
same time as ATI brought out a much better DX9 part.

Nothing, so when people say "Valve only slated Nvidia because of ATI's
money" it's not true.

No, you can spend a lot less and get a midrange card and still have a good
experience, but we were talking about someone who was looking to buy at the
top end.

More minsinformation. If you buy an XT now, you get a full Steam account
or all the Valve Steam games on CD (if you send off for it), which includes
Counterstrike, Half-Life, Team Fortress, etc and you get HL2 when it is
released. If you wait till later, you get just HL2. Pretty good deal
either way if you're looking to buy a new video card and get one of the
most advanced and anticipated games of the last few years for free.
