New Motherboard - Fresh Install or Just Drop MB in?

Robert L. Wells

Hello Ladies and Gents,

I would like to install a new motherboard in my Win 2K Pro machine.
Currently I have a soyo mobo with 512M ram and a WD 7200 drive. I also have
a large amount of software installed and would like to avoid reinstalling
it. The new mobo will be an INTEL BOXD945GNTLR / INTEL PENTIUM D 820 2.8GHZ
800MHZ with 1 gb of Kingston DDR2 533 memory. I may use my current graphics
card or upgrade in the near future. The question is... is it possible to
just drop in the new motherboard and memory without the reinstall of the OS
and apps or does Win2K pro optimize for the new hardware? If so is there
anything I should do manually?
Thank You,
Bob

You will more than likely need to perform a repair installtion

boot with the cd and follow the prompts as if you were going to do a frsh
install...

HOWEVER...the installer should detect your current win2k installation and
ask you if you want to reapir
it...

just say "yes" and let the repair take place

once you are up and running...reapply your windows updates
