New Microsft Security Alert

W

W. Guy Delaney

After downloading the most recent Windows patches, an icon showed up in my
systray with the name Microsoft Security Alert. I set everything up as
suggested, but the alert will not disappear when there are no alerts. In
fact, even though my Norton AntiVirus is updated and my computer has
recently had a full scan, I get the alert "Norton AntiVirus reports that it
is installed, but its status is unknown."

I get this same message on two different computers, so I assume this is
either a bug or that I have not configures something rights.]

Can anyone help me resolve this issue?

This is nothing to do with Word, but Microsoft's security has been much
improved with the SP2 update. The warning about Norton is merely a note to
tell you that Windows security has recognized its presence but cannot
control Norton (as might be expected in the case of a third party
application). You should be able to acknowledge the warning and/or tell
Windows security to ignore Norton in the future as you will be monitoring it
yourself. - See Windows control panel > security centre > virus protection.

What version of Norton AV are you running? If it is 2004, manually run
their Live Update and you should get an update that will interface
with the Microsoft Security Center and give you the correct
information. If you are running an earlier version, you will just need
to set the Security Center not to notify you on the status of the AV.
