New MB - Single Local Area Connection

Guest

I recently purchased a MB with dual G-Lan interfaces. As some of you have
posted I intended to have one dedicated to Wan i.e Internet and the other for
LAN (intranet) to a local Linux box. I've decided to purchase a copy of XP
Home edition for this new PC but after enabling both interfaces in the Bios
and installing the driver that came on the CD with the MB, I only ever see a
single Local Area Connection in my Network Connections folder.

Is this a limitation of XP Home?
I do know that XP Pro supports this...

If this is indeed a limitation of the Home edition, which version of Vista
will support multiple network connection because I do have an express upgrade
to Vista?

Thanks

Thanks Richard for the prompt reply...

If I remember correctly (I am not at home at this moment which is where the
PC is at) I only see a single Network Controller Device. This is a "Marvell®
88E8053 PCI-E Gigabit LAN controller" on an ASUS A8N32-SLI Deluxe MB.

So I should therefore expect to see two of these?

I am glad to hear that XP Home should support two Lan interfaces however.

What should I try next? Re-install the driver?

Thanks

Gilles

You should see two network cards in Device Manager - you may need to
reinstall drivers to see if they pick up the second card, or check the
manual/Web site FAQs to see if they give you tips on installing the drivers
for the dual NIC function correctly.

Hi Richard

I went through installing the drivers again last night once you confirmed
that there was no reason XP-H should be able to support two Lan interfaces.

I managed to get the second card in the Device Manager to show up and the
second Local Area Connection as well.

The only curious thing is that in the Device Manager, I have two different
controllers: one device(card) is labeled Marvell Yukon Controller and the
other is labeled nVidia Controller. I expected both interfaces to be handled
by the same Marvell Yukon controller, since the Dual G-Lan interfaces are
both integrated on the MB. I'll pursue this in the Asus Forum

Thanks for your help

If you read the manual for the board you will see that one of the NICs
is on the Marvell controller and the other one is on the NVidia controller.

Thanks for your help

See what Michael said - what you see is certainly what you should expect to
see. Glad to hear you got it all sorted out in the end.
