'New mail' icon no longer pops up.

I used to get an envelope icon pop up when there was new mail,
but now it remains hidden in the notification area. (It is there)

The main dialog for Taskbar and Start Menu Properties
has "Hide when inactive" and ditto for that icon on
the Customize Notifications page.

I've just rebooted. If I haven't rebooted for a few days I'll lose the date
that pops-up above the time. I think it gets hidden behind
the Notif. Area because it happens to other icons of which
I see only the tops of.

I use a sound to notify me of new mail. Don't have to move eyes off main
part of the screen. I find it more reliable. Just a thought...

That's a well known bug in XP since the first release. There is no real
cure except to logout then login again. That fixes it until the next
time.
