new intel benchmarks

so far i cant say im impressed about a benchmark that shows a chip intel
plans to launch in a years time performing lower than amds lowest end dual
core you can buy today

Considering the Intel chip is a mobile part I can't say I really agree.
Secondly, the server version appears to be trouncing the Athlon. Be more
interesting if there were Opteron and TDP figures available. That would
be much more illuminating.

Both Launching Q1 '06 which means not a year but just 6 months or so.

if by trouncing you mean that a 4 core server rig is 33% faster a 2 core
consumer cpu available today then fair enough.

i didnt know it was Q1 they were shipping, last i heard was H2 but from
what i hear the pentiumM line will be replacing the p4 so yonah woulnt
stay as a mobile only for long

The indication I got from IDF coverage is 3Q 2006 for the new Intel chips.

Whoops, I got confused by all the varying "dual" and x2 I guess

<http://pics.computerbase.de/news/11597/12.jpg> shows launch as Q1

From what I've read, yonah is a design from the ground up vs. Pentium M
which is descended from P3. Conroe and brothers are for 2H '06; who knows
if they are yonah descendants or what? I guess they can't come fast
enough for Intel.
