New installation

Today I installed Windows XP on a computer that previously was running ME.
All is well wit h the exception of Outlook. I installed Office XP
Professional, and previously saved all the date files on an external hard
drive. I can open Outlook, but can't access many of the feature, like adding
an e-mail account, or opening a new data file. The message I get is always
some varation of "The operation failed due to a registry or installation
problem," and suggested that I reinstalled Office XP, which I have tried. It
doesn't seem to get rid of the problem.

Previously I was using Outlook with ME and saved all files to another hard
drive. I think the files I'm looking for are .pst files. I'd like to use
those files on this new version of Outlook, but don't know where they need to
be copied back to.

Thanks for any help in figuring why I keep getting the "operation failed"
message, and also where I should install my outlook files to read them with
this new version. I can't get to any of the features where I might be able
to find the file locations becausae of the error message, so I don't know
where the data files are kept in this new version.

Any folder where you have permission to store them is acceptable.
