New Help with Copy and Paste Problem

When I highlight text. and use ctrl "c" then ctrl "v" all that is pasted
to the new document is the letter "a". It does it using all the other
copy and paste options also. ie right click copy, then right click
paste or edit menu copy and then paste. Has anyone had this happen.
Thanks for the help.

I believe some viruses cause this type of behaviour.
