New Hard Drive

I have a larger, faster hard drive I just installed. I want to transfer ALL
the files from my old hard drive to the new one (including the system boot
files) so it will ultimately replace my old one as the new C:\ drive. How do
I transfer all the files to ultimately make the new one my only source drive?

If you bought a retail drive the box should have contained complete
instructions and a CD with all the software you need. If you didn't buy
a retail drive you can get the instructions and (I think) the software
from the drive manufacturer's web site.

Most people who get a new hard drive want to do exactly what you want to
do, so the manufacturers have all the procedures worked out, and they'll
even help you with any questions you may have. Take it slow, you'll do fine.

The easiest way to transfer all your software including your system files to
the new drive is using a third party program such as Acronis or Ghost.

I use Acronis as it will do the entire drive including all your partitions
in one go. With ghost you need to do a partition at a time. Either way
works.

I also suggest you backup as much of your data as you can of computer before
beginning.

At the end you have to change your setting on the drives so that the new
drive becomes the system drive and the old drive becomes the slave drive.
