New freeware Paperless Printer doo-dad

Duddits

I am so confused.

Paperless Printer seems like a good product. What version should I be
downloading that is without any spyware/nagware/adware etc? And where can I
get it?
AFAICT, V 3 nags you each time you use it but doesn't put anything on the
doc. V2 doesn't nag you but inserts the paperless printer url at the
bottom of the doc. I couldn't get V3 to install so I'm using V2.

I see now tho that the OP has posted that he has a

slightly older
version with no adware - might be worth looking at.

Yes, we had the right program but wrong versions. I hate it
when that happens. :)
Mostly, I'm interested in the ability to save a web page as
a 300 dpi TIF file with very little fuss.

Again...
The most recent version that i could finf without being v3.1 (the one
with ads) is v2.08 from here:

I have both versions 2 and 3.

Having installed and tried both, I can find NO difference in
the operating functions.... except:

A finished printed file with version 2 has a single (unobtrusive to me)
line which reads ... www.paperlessprinter.com ... or something like that.

A finished printed file with version 3 does not have the bottom line, but
instead flashes a nag-screen urging you to pay-up for rights to keep
using the product in your business.

IMHO, either one is OK, although I lean toward the one without the
nagscreen. The single bottom line is less bothersome to me.

It was the efax messenger Plus program i was referring, not Paperless
Print. Someone said that v3.1 had become adware, but v3.0 wasn't. So I
search it but i could only find v2.08.

It appears this program has gone off the rails. I have version 3.0.0.7 which
does none of the stuff reported by B. Cooper. I went back to the link, DL'd
and noticed the ver there is now 3.1. Installing reveals that it installs a
whole raft of files not included with my version. And B. Cooper is correct
that this version is afflicted with banner ads and a desire to call home.

Sorry for the duff leads. It's a great little proggie, so I'll be clinging
tightly to my old version. What are the options wrt to making it available
to others? I'm not interested in hosting, but would be willing to send it
along. Not sure of legal implications though. Somebody can advise me, if
interested.

I really like the sound of this programme (Messenger Plus) and
would be keen to try it if anyone has been successful in locating
the earlier version mentioned above (3.0.0.7).

I wonder if anyone can help with an emailed copy (if that is
permissible)?

On another tack, I've attempted to download PaperlessPrinter from

the rarefinds site without success.

Both versions (2.0 and 3.0) begin to transfer fine, but stop
after transfer of just over 400 KB because the connection is
"reset by the peer". I've tried using Opera and an older version
of Netscape with the same results.

Wonder if anyone else has had this experience?

Cheers, John S

I would be keen to get hold of the last "well behaved" version
3.0.0.7 mentioned above if possible.

I'd like to try it out and would be grateful if anyone can assist
by sending a copy or if they have a url for downloading that
version.

As was mentioned twice previously, both of these links (which are
essencially the same anyway, since the zdnet link just routes you back
to www.rarefind.com) produce an aborted, incomplete download of
Paperless Printer v2.0

Mentioned twice maybe - but surely not by you? I have not seen any
message from bluemoon (you) about that. I downloaded my self from the
ZDNET link before I posted, and downloaded completed without a
problem. Tried again now from the Zdnet page, download OK. Tried it
twice even, OK and fast both times. Tried the other link now too, but
there I notice a problem - slow - and download
aborts/resumes/aborts/restarts etc. You are right that the d/l URL
used by the zdnet page is the same as the other, so then either
rarefind.com gives request routed via Zdnet higher priority (likely),
or the link might be just an alias, a virtual link routed to different
local server at rarefind.com each time based on traffic.

All the best,
Bjorn Simonsen
