New Folder not working

After trying every option under the sun..

Reg edits from various sources... and the like... I continue to have this
issue of being unable to create new folders within a folder I created on my
desktop. The new/folder options in right click work in all other areas of
the computer and programming. Also does file/new/folder.

Save as tree, make new folder works everywhere but here as well.

I am not running the Nvidia driver, and do not have one so this is not the
cause and the solutions for its issues do not correct my problem...

What I have found is...

in Windows Explorer/docs & setts/profile in question/Desktop...

Desktop icon is the recyle bin.
Contents of desktop folder is contents of the recyle bin.

So I renamed it reccyle and the file path for the folders on my desktop
changed to end in recycle.

So I renamed it back to desktop and the file path changed back to end in
desktop.

Right clicking on the desktop folder produces the options for the recycle bin.

I believe since the comp is confused and thinks my whole desktop is the
recycle bin, it won't let me create a new folder in it.

The desktop folder in the afforementioned tree does not display the contents
of the desktop in the folder, and emptying the contents of recycle bin does
not delete my desktop icons and folders.

Any thoughts?

Looks like a corrupted user profile to me.

How to copy data from a corrupted user profile to a new profile:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;811151

You must login once as the new user before copying the old profile data
to it. The article negelcts to mention that important little tidbit.

Do you know of a way I can do that without copying the corruption?

My drive is near 50% full, so creating a new one and leaving the old one
isn't really an option. I tried that and almost crashed.

When I copied the whole profile, the corruption came along with it.

You you remember not to copy Ntuser.dat, Ntuser.dat.log and Ntuser.ini?

If so, and your problem does appear to be with the desktop structure I
would try not copying C:\Documents and Settings\[username]\Destop folder
as well.

Start -> Run -> Regedit

Navigate to:

"HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders"

What is the path shown for "Desktop" in the right-hand pane?

Also try the following:

Open a command prompt window

Navigate to "C:\Documents & Settings\<username>\Desktop

execute a dir command: dir /a desktop.ini

If a file is listed, type the following:
attrib -s -h desktop.ini
del desktop.ini
