New external hard drive not recognized

I have been using an 80gb external w/no problem, just got a 320gb and
it works fine, however, each time I log off and then back on, the
drive does not appear on ’My Computer". I unplu and plug back in and
there it is! I understand that I need to change a setting in BIOS to
get it to recognize this large a drive. I need step by step (like a
five year old) on how to get in and change this setting. Thanks in
advance.

I did not have to change any BIOS settings for my 250 external.

Have you tried giving the drive a permanent letter via ADmin Tools, Computer
Management, Disk Management.
