new email notification

Does anyone know how to clear the new email notification
on the login screen? Underneath my icon it says "3 unread
messages" and I have checked my email several times,
there are no new messages. How do I clear it? I have also
tried logging out, or restarting the computer, neither of
which worked. Oh, and I tried associating a
different .NET passport with my username, that didn't
work either.
Thanks,
Hartley

Hello
Well do you want to do away with the notification totally or just want it to
be 0 when there are no e-mails.
To 0 it out, this could be a few different reasons it says 3 new unread
e-mails.
1. Could be associated with 3 new messages that are in your deleted file
from the blocked list.
2. Could be from Hotmail, Yahoo, Outlook, or Outlook Express

To do away with the notice all together you can download Tweak UI from MS
Powertoys,
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp

Open Tweak UI>Logon>Unread Mail>remove the checkmark in show unread mail

Either upgrade to WM 5.0 or download TweakUI from MS. In
tweak ui you can turn off the email notification and do
many other useful modifications to your system. I'm not
sure if this will work if you are using MSN Messenger. In
WM 4.7 the email notification is from an MSN Add-in that
you may be able to uninstall from Add/Remove Programs in
the Control Panel.

Use TweakUI - one of the XP Powertoys from (if you have installed XP
SP1)
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp

If you have not installed SP1, the earlier version can be found at
http://download.microsoft.com/download/whistler/Install/2/WXP/EN-US/TweakUiPowertoySetup.exe

Once installed you will find it in Start - All Programs - Powertoys for
Windows XP

Its Repair - Repair Unread Mail count will put the count right: its
Logon - Unread Mail has a check box so you can remove the reminder
altogether
