New disk and new problems

Jack

Hello,
I have just clean installed Windows XP using NTSF disk format.
I have preserved my data files from my old Win XP (FAT 32 system) and
connected that old drive as the external (USB) disk.
However the main folders on that disk are shown in 8.3 name convention, so
long names afe truncuated,
like this:
MY_FAV~1
Interestingly subfolders with long names of that folder are displayed
properly.
Where is the problem?
How to fix it?
Jack

Hello Andrew,

Just to be sure, create a backup from the hole disk before.

Best regards

Just an aside and a total guess at this point in my day as I'm worn out
:)

1. Perhaps the external is in FAT32 and the app you are using to view
the files doesn't like FAT32. I heve several apps I still use that do
not like long file names.

2. Still, to this day, I ALWAYS name my files in 8+3. Yes I'm
"old-fashioned" but even tho I play in XP and Vista this has saved me
lots of time and frustration.

3. Notice that I run a "legacy" website :)
