New Critical Runtime Key QFE For Windows XP Embedded - 126166 ???????????

"The current inventory of unique runtime Product Keys printed on
Certificates of Authenticity (COAs) for Windows XPE SP1 is nearly
exhausted.  This QFE allows OEMs and embedded developers to use new runtime
Product Keys provided after November 19, 2004 on a database containing
Windows XPE SP1 or earlier component databases.

If you do not apply this QFE to a database with Windows XPE SP1 or an
earlier component, you will not be able to use Product Keys from COAs
shipped from the Authorized Replicator (AR) after November 19, 2004."

Does anybody know that the hell this means? Does this affect by already
deployed XPe builds?

I wonder how did you get that information? Email? Who is the sender then (the IP trace)?

Any link? I failed to find the one.

November 5th, 2004 was posted an article KB888506 on the Windows
Embedded OEM site for this. Apparently, the key-codes that come on the
stickers (one of which you plug into your Target Designer SLX project)
are running out under the current algorithm. From the looks of it, they
are expanding the algorithm (with the release of the SP2 kit) to add
more keys and this update is to make sure that projects designed with
the Target Designer released prior to this change will work with the
expanded set of keys.

In other words, if you've already got a key in there, it's not a big
deal until you try to build a new image with a NEW KEY. Also, if you
download and install SP2 (when it's out), you shouldn't have to worry
about this hotfix.

Given us loads of time to update our images then....

Surely they must have realised that the keys were running out a while ago...

That's what I thought too. I just wanted to make sure.

So most of use should not need this QFE, only those using a new product key
in the XPe pre-SP2 builder applicaiton.
