I have a brand new system, dual core, 1 gig of memory, 320 Seagate SATA
HD - and when I try to install XP, when it reboots it gives me an error
about my hardware.
I also tried to install Win98/Winme for good measure and the same
problem.
The bios recognizes the SATA drive, but it seems like WinXP doesn't
like it - any ideas?
I have tried XP boot disk from the net and they boot, but it sticks at
the blue screen of death telling me that some piece of my hardware is
causing it...
(Then David adds...)
It does boot in Safe mode, I forgot to include that..
(And still later adds...)
I just went through the CD that came with the motherboard -=
ASUSP5P800SE and there are no drivers for the SATA drive on it.
It is separated into four categories :
Audio, Lan, Chipset, USB2 and in all of the folders there is NOTHING
about a SATA drvie. Where should I go?

If you are loading Windows XP onto a computer with a serial ATA (SATA)
hard drive, you will have to manually load the SATA drivers.
As suggested on the following usenet post, you need to put the drivers
on a floppy disk.

Did you see the second post stating that the OP could boot to SafeMode?
Does you advice still apply?
David:
Just to clarify your problem...
If I correctly understand what you've done -- you apparently were able to
install the XP OS onto your SATA HD but after the installation process was
completed and you rebooted that's when "it gives me an error about my
hardware". Is that correct so far? If so, could you be more precise as to
that "error" message?
Assuming the above is correct, did the installation process go without a
hitch? No problems of any kind?
What do you mean when you say "I have tried XP boot disk from the net and
they(?) boot, but it sticks at the blue screen of death telling me that some
piece of my hardware is causing it...". What "XP boot disk" are you
referring to? Aren't you using an XP installation CD to install the OS? What
is this "boot disk from the net"?
You say you can boot into Safe Mode. You're referring to Safe Mode as it
pertains to the XP OS, right? Not the Win9x/Me OS you apparently have tried
to install, right? (And you've gotten rid of the Win9x/Me OS (or systems) by
now, right?). So what happens when you boot into Safe Mode? Any clue there
re drivers or other possible issues affecting your problem?
Any you're sure you've connected/configured your SATA HD correctly, right?
And you've gone over your BIOS elements to ensure that they're correctly set
for your SATA HD, right? There's no RAID configuration here, right?
(Presumably the default elements should be sufficient).
I'm pretty sure that Intel chipset contains native drivers for your SATA HD
so that no supplementary drivers should be necessary. But check this out
should your User Manual indicate differently.
