New computer problems

I just got this computer but some stuff is driving me crazy

o When I type on MSN messenger or email my keyboard will randomly switch to caps, "enter" will not send, backspace deletes a whole word at a time...it is happening while I am typing this. Sometimes it seem like the shift is being held down, but it clears up after I open switch to another window and then go back to it. Also sometimes if I try to click on text on a webpage it will highlight the whole paragraph and not put the blinking cursor on the text

o I have cable internet but when I load pages they still take a while. And I constantly get popups. But I cannot close the popus until they have fully loaded, same as webpages. I can't "stop", "refresh" or anything. I just get the "bing" sound when I try to close things. I've tried to close them through the Task Manager but instead of closing only one explorer window it shuts them all down..
My email takes an especially long time to load. It's the Army's email
I'm not too incredibly computer literate, so please dummy down any responces...Thank you VERY much.

Update your virus scan definitions and run a full scan.

The thing most people do not know is that after they buy a computer with
virus protection installed they have to go in and register and download the
updates and continue to update it or set it to auto update then after a
period of time the subscription will run out usually in 90-180 days at that
time they will have to purchase new protection either online or from a
retail store and at that time they will be able to update for a period of
365 days (1 year).
