I have a wireless network with a Gateway running windows
98 and a Dell 4600 running Windows XP. The network is
through a 2Wire Home Portal. Neither computer has
difficulty surfing the internet. I've been working with
2Wire support, exchanging e-mails and Dell and SBC
support. At first 2Wire was helpful, and I was able to
share files between the two computers for a few days.
Then they stopped sharing files. 2Wire suggested
removing and reinstalling file and printer sharing, but
won't tell me how to do that. Thanks

I have an almost identical situation: I have a Dell
desktop using 98 and a Dell laptop using XP. Both can
access the net just fine through Verizon DSL through a
NETGEAR wireless router. I just don't seem to find any way
to get them to share files or printers. Any suggestions?

In 9* ME file & printer sharing is located in the network properties
general tab I believe there will be a button file and Printer sharing
click remove the check from the box click ok until you return to the
desktop then restart the computer and recheck the share printer box in
the network properties and you have just removed and reinstalled
printer sharing; not knowing what your actual network properties looks
like you can also remove then re-add client for microsoft networks &
netbeui etc. to remove any corrupted device drivers not allowing you
to use print services, this should in most cases resolve a problem
related to the network protocols the printer would use.

also try net use lpt1 \\servername\printername to see if the network
resource is available -- perhaps the printer driver on the remote box
is corrupt If this is the case remove/reinstall the printer driver on
the remote box
