I have a small network set up with about a dozen computers connected to it.
I have one computer I set up as a file server. I am getting an error

"No more connections can be made to the remote computer at this time because
ther are already as many connections as this computer can accept"

I have not added anything new and just got this problem today. Please help!!!

It sounds like you are not using a real server operating system on the
"file server" and have run into the concurrent incoming connections
limit. Here is information on that:

http://support.microsoft.com/?id=314882 - Inbound connections limit in
XP

10 for XP Pro/Tablet/MCE
5 for XP Home
49 for SBS 2000
74 for SBS 2003
Unlimited for full Server O/Ses

Note that "incoming connections" does not mean the number of computers;
one computer can make several connections to another.

The solution for this is to put a real server operating system on the
"file server" (and with that many workstations, you really should do
that). A server OS will enable you to do centralized management of the
workstations, permissions, antivirus, updates, etc. If the "file
server" is not running any programs but is simply doing file serving
and/or backup, then you could run a Linux distro on it instead of an MS
server OS.
