Networking my laptop

Hey Guys

I'm having problems trying to network my Laptop to my Friends Desktop as I wish to share my files and transfer my files straight to his deskto

Ok to delve straight into the matter. Lemme explain wat all i did.The desktop and the laptop both run on Windows XP Home Edition. I connected the desktop to the laptop directly through their network cards using a cross-over cable. I put the IP Address of the laptop as 192.168.0.1 and the desktop as 192.168.0.2. I put the same workgroup name for both the computers. The connection works and I can see the small computer icon for the Local Area Network on the right bottom corner of the taskbar. I even tried pinging the desktop from the laptop and vice-verse and both ways it works. I've tried sharing folders and even the entire drive on both the computers

The problem now arrises, on the desktop when I go to my network places, it only shows the shared documents of the desktop, not of the laptop and when I click on "View Workgroup Computers" it shows only the Desktop Computer Icon, not the laptop. If i do the same thing on the laptop, it doesnt show anything, neither the Laptop Computer Icon nor the Desktop Computer Icon. So basically I cannot see the shared documents of the Desktop on the Laptop Network Places and I cannot see the shared documents of the Laptop on the Desktop Network Places

I've installed and ticked marked "File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks" and Ive even run the "Set up home and small office network" Wizard on both the computers but nothing seems to work. So basically, ive tried everthing according the book. If I'm missing something or somewhere Ive gone wrong, do lemme know and see if you can help me out of this dilemma

I dunno if this helps but I'm on a network at home, got a wireless card attached to my laptop and Im already sharing files on my network at home and the desktop that I intend to connect is another friends where I have to go to his house and try and connect my laptop to his desktop

I'd appreciate if any information or help could be provided

Thank you.

Make sure the firewall is turned off for the lan
connection. Also try \\192.168.0.x\share rather than using
\\servername\share
