Ok, so i have two computers, one with win xp home, the other with win
xp pro...

Now, they are in different ends of the house, but i want to be able to
share files between them...the one with xp pro has wireless, the other
doesnt...so I have a linksys wrt54g router connected to the internet
that the xp pro laptop connects to...i then have a second linksys
wrt54gs router running dd-wrt firmware that i have put into
client-bridge mode...both laptops can get on the internet...i can ping
one another...

So it looks like:

Internet-->WRT54g(192.168.1.1)-------------------------> 1) wireless
(192.168.1.100)
\------ 2)router in
client bridge mode(192.168.1.101) -->wired

THe last wired llaptop has an ip of 192.168.1.102

I can ping back and forth from either one...They are both set up in the
same "workgroup" and on the xp home laptop(wired) it shows both
computer, but when i try to connect to the other it says it cannot find
the network share...on the xp pro(wireless) when i click on view
workgroup it just does nothing and cant find anyone in it...inclulding
itself?

I have checked both computers to ensure that NetBios and File/Print
sharing is installleld and they are...i have set up shares on both
computers, neither can find them though...

one thing that is confusing me is that i can ping by IP, but not by
name, even with netbios installled....

i want to be able to shares file back and forth among these two so any
help woulld be greatyl appreciated...

thanks!

OK, so it sounds like both computers are connected - that's a start.

One of the most common causes of this problem would be a misconfigured or
overlooked personal firewall, or other security component. There are several
other possibilities too.

Check for a consistent NetBT setting.

If nothing helps yet, look at "browstat status", "ipconfig /all", "net config
server", and "net config workstation", from each computer, and diagnose the
problem. Read this article, and linked articles, and follow instructions
precisely (download browstat!):

Thanks a lot for your post, your website was extremely helpfull in
fixing my problem. I got it finally working and I can go both ways
now.

Not to be greedy, but one new 'nuisance' is that when I try to access
mapped drives from the wireless connection to the wired computer, it
tends to hang for maybe 20 seconds before it comes back and displays
the listing. Going the other way it is instantly...

Is there anyway of fixing this?

Thanks!

Thanks for the update! That's a start.

If you're seeing latency in accessing mapped drives, I'd bet you have a
protocol problem, probably in either:
1) Name resolution.
2) Contacting the master browser.

Go back and look at the diagnostics again. I'll bet something will show up. Or
start by checking your protocol stacks.
