When people try to connect to my computer to get some files from my shared documents they are prompted to give a username and password. I am really puzzled on this one. I'm not sure what information you need to help me, but I'll give you the basics.

Everyone on the network doesn't seem to have any trouble, just me.
I've recently bought this computer. I installed the motherboard drivers (onboard network card).
I have a unique computer name and IP.
I have a password for my Administrator account but not the account I use.
I do not use Windows firewall or any other firewall.
I allowed permissions for 'everyone' in shared documents.
Under my network card properties, I have the following installed:
  • Client for Microsoft Networks
  • File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks
  • QoS Packet Scheduler
  • Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)

ipconfig /all

Windows IP Configuration

Host Name . . . . . . . . . . . . : prime
Primary Dns Suffix . . . . . . . :
Node Type . . . . . . . . . . . . : Unknown
IP Routing Enabled. . . . . . . . : No
WINS Proxy Enabled. . . . . . . . : No

Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection:

Connection-specific DNS Suffix . :
Description . . . . . . . . . . . : NVIDIA nForce Networking Controller
Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 00-13-D4-5D-FD-3E
Dhcp Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : No
IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.100.8
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.100.1
DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.100.1

Thanks for any help. Need more info?

Edit:
I'm using Windows XP Professional.

What version of Windows are you using?
W98 likes to use the NetBui protocol for networking (I may have spelt that wrong), so try installing that.

Can you access files on any other computer?
Can you check that Netbios is enabled?
Go into network connections, right click your LAN connection, click properties, click Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), click properties, click advanced, then click WINS tab and check 'Enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP' is selected.

I enabled NetBIOS and that seems to have fixed all of my problems!

Thanks a lot!
