Networking 2 computers at different levels of house

I have 2 computers that I want to network together so that they can
share an internet connection, share files, and share a printer. One
computer is NEC 533Mhz with 64 MB of RAM running Windows 98SE. The
other computer is a Dell 2.8Ghz with 1GB of ram and running Windows XP
Home. The dell is in the basement and has a direct line to the
internet router and the printer. The NEC is upstairs without internet
and without a printer. I don't want to do drill holes in my walls or
set up a power bridge network. Is there any other way I can get both
computers to share internet, a printer, and files?

Thanks

I simply installed a Homephoneline network. I used Netgear with an
ethernet connection. I don't recommend USB. You buy one card for each PC
and hook up through any existing phone line, live or not, that you have
access to in each of the rooms and you have a network. I have had mine
for years, due to the inability to run wires, and it hasn't missed yet.
I get the full rated speed on my DSL and share everything.
Not a problem for me, but the only downside is that the designated host
computer must be running for the client to get on line.

If you go this route or have any other questions, I will be glad to
share what little I know.

Here are a couple of sites with alot of information and ideas....

If your router has wireless capabilities, buy a USB wireless connection for
your NEC upstairs and you're networked.

although there may be better solutions presented, but i wd suggest a
wireless solution - one reason is to avoid at least one computer running for
internet connection, secondly of any chance of growth in your network (PC or
gameboxes etc), and finally, if you want to move your PCs withing the house
at all, you wont have NORMALLY big issue - it will be a nice solution for
quite some time to come ...

I'm not comfortable with Wireless network because of the cost. My
router doesn't have wireless capability so I would have to buy a new
router, wireless antenna, and a new wirless network interface card
(WNIC).

Thanx all

I have the Netgear ethernet homephoneline network and both PCs run at
top rated speed on DSL. Haven't had a single problem in two years.
Incidentally, I use the same phone line that has voice-fax-dial-up modem
and DSL.
