Hi, i have 2 computers in my household. 1, my desktop, running Windows XP
SP2 Professional. There is also a laptop in the house, on the same router,
and is running Windows XP SP2 Home edition.

When i view our network "Mshome" i can see both computers, the desktop and
laptop. With the desktop, i can view both files, of mine and the laptops.
But when using the laptop, trying to connect to my desktop, i recieve this
error.

\\computer is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this
network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if
you have access permissions.

I know your all familiar with this error, and have a solution for me.. but
my situation is a little bit weird.

One of the most common causes of this problem would be a misconfigured or
overlooked personal firewall. There are other possibilities too. What
antivirus protection do you use? Read this article with an open mind.

If no help yet, provide "browstat status" and "ipconfig /all" from each
computer, so we can diagnose the problem. Read this article, and linked
articles, and follow instructions precisely:

Please let us know if any of these suggestions are of any help. What you learn
may help others in the future, and that's the purpose of these forums.

If you use Norton (Symantec) AV this might be the solution. I have just spent
3 days trying to set up a home wireless network (2 PCs and one laptop) and
had the same problem with one PC.

What I had to do was 1. Open Norton Internet secuity 2. Click on the Support
& Help pages at the top right. 3. Search for networking. This instructed me
to 4. Double click on Personal firewall on the main Norton Internet Security
Home Page 5. Run the Network wizard. 6. Repeat on other PCs.

This solved the problem in 5 minutes, but in the 3 previous days I had made
calls to the helplines of 2 wireless equipment manufacturers, my ISP free
helpline, my ISP premium helpline and none told me to do this. Possibly this
is because it is a relatively new feature on Norton, as I didn't have this
problem with my laptop where the subscription had lapsed.

I hope this solves the problem. If not not look at Chuck's Blog, which is
very complete if a bit technical for newbies like me.
