Network; XP PC is Not Discoverable

Running Network with 2 PC's running Vista Home Prem32BIT and 1 PC running
WindowsXP SP3. When I open Network & Sharing center in my Vista PC's and
click on VIEW FULL MAP.....it shows my Vista PC's but does not show my XP PC.
At the Bottom of the Window it reads "The Following discovered Device(s) can
not be placed in the map". I did some research and it directed me to an
issue causing this issue referred to as Link-Layer Topology Discovery Mapper
I/O Driver and Link-Layer Topology. I checked the setting is the VISTA PC,
they are checked. Since I am running Window XP SP3, the Link-Layer update is
not needed (although I did download it, when I tried to install it on the XP
PC it came back as not needed as a newer version was present).

I am able to show the XP PC when I map My Network using other softwares, I
am able to see and share files between the Vista PC's and the XP PC.

Any ideas why I can't Map the XP Machine when I click on VIEW FULL MAP in my
Vista PC's?

Check the network properties list in the WinXP system for a component called the
Link-Layer Topology Discovery (LLTD) Responder. If the LLTD Responder component
is not installed on the Windows XP-based computer it won't be seen in Vista's
Network Map.

Here's a link to an MS fix for the WinXP system. Note, if it's up to SP3, the
downloadable version (fix v5) probably won't to anything but say that it's not
needed, so then simply request the hotfix patch (fix v6) and apply it to the
WinXP-SP3 system.

Good luck!

As you noted in your reply, I am running XP SP3 and I had already run the
Hotfix that was available with 922120. When I ran that file it came back
that the version already installed on my XP PC was newer. I assume this was
v5. How would I secure v6?

Google: WindowsXP-KB922120-v6-x86-ENU.exe downlaod

http://rs63.rapidshare.com/files/125961185/WindowsXP-KB922120-v6-x86-ENU.exe

It works, I plan on putting it on my 2 other XP machines.

You must request the hotfix from MS. The how-to information is contained within
the KB article I previously cited.

If it is a Hotfix then only get it from the source which is Microsoft. All other
sites that advertise this Hotfix are spammers getting info from your system to
further their needs
webster72n gave a correct answer to the OP

The actual size of that Hotfix is 365kb which takes about 5 seconds to download
directly from Microsoft.
If you download from that not very reputable site that you posted you will have a
download of approximately 500 + kb's. The reason for this is that the site you
posted pulls info from your system using the time difference that it takes to
download and uses it for furthering spam which they do . They also sell info to
other spammers.

Sorry to be a pest, but all I saw was information to request a lsit of all
Hotfixes......which could be a long list.

When I requested the HotFix at the site you provided.....I got an email back
from Microsoft providing a link to download the HotFix....the file to
download is entitled 350011_ENU_i386_zip.exe. Is this the 922120 v6 file?

Do you have the Link to Download this HotFix? I tried the 922120 Ver 5....as
I explained, and when I ran that file it came back that I had a newer
version...and did not need 922120v5. Dave also mentions that if I already
was running SP# that I would get this message and advised I should get the V6
version of this fix. When I did a search at Microsoft for the v6 I got no
hits. I fully agree with you, that is, download only from Microsoft and will
appreciate your further assistance to provide the link....thank You

Can you provide a link?

The official WindowsXP-KB922120-v5-x86-ENU.exe downloaded from Microsoft is
520,192 bytes

WindowsXP-KB922120-v6-x86-ENU.exe downloaded from Rapidshare is 532,480
bytes

So it seems to be in the right ballpark for size considering the version
difference and both are digitally signed by Microsoft.

And I can verify it (v6) worked on all of my XP (1 Pro and 2 Home) systems.

The file contained in the email I got from Microsoft to download is entitled
350011_ENU_i386_zip.exe. Since it doesn't show v6 in the title at all, I am
not sure if this is the Hotfix you suggested I install. Are you familar
enough with the v6 version that this file, 350011_ENU_i386_zip.exe is the v6
Fike you referred to?

David Webb

Yes, that's the zip file that contains the hotfix that you need. They've given
you a password to open the zip and this password is time limited, so you should
act fast.

David;

That did the trick...it worked. My XP PC now is displayed in Vista Mapping.
Thanks
