Network woes...

Toby

I keep getting this message...

"No more connection can be made to this remote computer
at this time because there are already as many
connections as the computer can accept."

We are running a peer to peer network with 8 computers
with Windows NT, XP Home, and XP Pro.

Please help.

I read here that MS limits how many computers you can have on your network
but I'm not sure how many. The solution, I beleive, was to send Poor Bill
Gates more money.

Toby,

Windows XP Home limits to 5 incoming connections simultaneously, XP Pro to 10.

With as many as 7 clients accessing one "server", you will exceed the
simultaneous capacity of 5 incoming connections on XP Home. You may exceed the
limit on XP Pro under some conditions. I don't know about NT (is it Server or
Workstation?).

As the article points out, you can limit the amount of time for retaining
inactive incoming sessions, if that is possible. Or you might want to upgrade
some computers from XP Home to XP Pro.

And Toby, please don't contribute to the spread and success of email address
mining viruses. Learn to munge your email address properly, to keep yourself a
bit safer when posting to open forums. Protect yourself and the rest of the
internet - read this article.
