Network too slow

Okay, I have a Linksys wireless router with 4-port switch. I have a desktop
(XP Home) wired to it and a laptop (XP Pro) using a wireless connection. I
have no problems with internet, nor do I have problems seeing each computers
on the network, but it has come to my attention that my network is VERY
slow. The desktop is about 2 years old and the laptop is about 1 year old.

According to my Task Manager (on my laptop), these are my connection
options:

Adapter Name Network Utilization
Link Speed State
Local Area Connetion 0%
100Mbps Non Operational
Wireless Network Connection 0%
11Mbps Operational

Any information exchanged on my laptop goes through the wirless connection.
Why is my network limitted to 11Mbps? Shouldn't everything within my
network be on a 100Mbps connection?

If I download from with a p2p software, I get speeds anywhere from 5kbps to
150kkbps. I just Dl'ed a song and got 44kbps and it registered at about 3%
in my Task Manager.
If I move data within my network, the fastest I get is about 0.75%.
If I watch a movie from my desktop on my laptop, I get a burst at about 40%,
then while it plays, it bounces from 7% to 15%.

I've wired my laptop directly to my router and my LAC becomes operational.
However, the performance is exactly the same.
Can anyone help shed some light on this for me. If you need more
information I will do what I can.

Thanks!
