Mike Hamilton

While attempting to setup a wireless network between a XP
desktop and a Win 2000 laptop, I could not get an
internet to connect on the lap top.
At first I got the internet to connect but could not
access other computers on the network.
I contacted to router manufacter. Linksys said I have
security issue. Their Router has built-in security and I
must disable all firewalls and security in the operating
system.
How do you disable all security and firewalls on Win 2000
Pro operating systems. I all ready disable my Mcafee
Personal Plus firewall.

Networks are plug and Pray.I pray I get help. HELP???

Make sure that in addition to disabling all firewalls that you take into account that
XP has a built in ICF firewall that also needs to be disabled. Look in the help on
the XP box or view network connections advanced. Then try to ping each computer via
their assigned ip address which can be viewed with the ipconfig /all command. You
need to verify basic network connectivity that way before dealing with permission
issues. Ping will work as long as there is proper network connectivity and no
firewall blocking ICMP. Also be sure to read the manual thoroughly and do not enable
WEP until you can get network working without it first. You may also want to post in
the win2000.networking newsgroup after you have further results/info. --- Steve
