Network Problem

Hello

I have 2 computers setup on a network. Main one is running XP Pro and the
other is running XP Home. XP Home can see XP pro, But XP pro can not see XP
Home. I can ping and it works. I took out all Firewall software. When
clicking on work group nothing happens. I did install SP 2 on XP pro but not
XP Home. This is confusing.

Thanks Bear

What does "I took out all firewall software" mean exactly? SP2
automatically enables the Windows Firewall. Did you disable it? If not,
try enabling File & Printer Sharing in the Windows Firewall Exceptions
from its applet in Control Panel.

Here is an excellent network troubleshooter by MVP Hans-Georg Michna. If
the Windows Firewall fix above doesn't help, go through the
troubleshooter:

Replace your network cabling and try a different port on the
hub/switch/router. Also try resetting the hub/switch/router.

More than likely, it's a bad cable.

I have done all that. I even bought new router.

Can each PC ping the other by IP address? How about pinging by name?

On each PC,
Click Start, click Run, type: cmd (and hit enter)

Type: ipconfig /all >c:\ipconfig.txt (and hit enter)

Use Notepad to open c:\ipconfig.txt and copy and paste entire contents into
your next post.

Thanks,
Carey

When I click on newtwork, I am still not able to see other computer or see
mine. When I click on workgroup nothing happens. When I do search for a
computer on the network I get nothing.

Tell me what services you have disabled on your computer. Not turned off,
mind you, but disabled. You find them under Services in the Administrative
Tools in your Control Panel.

Either that or you did not follow the steps EXACTLY at
www.careyholzman.com/net1.htm

I'm certain if you look, you'll find more than one service is disabled. I
need you to investigate that on both PCs and tell me ALL of the services
that are disabled. It doesn't matter if you disabled them or not. What
matters is if a needed service has become disabled, regardless of how.

For that, I need you to check and report back to me which services are set
to disabled.
