Network printer Question

G

Gman

Trying to help a friend. Her small office has a network printer
and one wireless laptop. They just installed a new desktop into the network
that could not "see" the laptop or the printer so they setup a network from
the laptop in XP. The new computer prints through the laptop, but often the
laptop is not there. How can the new computer find the network printer
directly?

Thanks,

David

The answer is, "it depends". Bet you knew that was coming! If the printer
uses a standard TCP/IP port for printing, you can just install it as a local
printer on the other workstations (Start -> Settings -> Printers, Add New
Printer). You'll need to know it's IP address and have a disk with the
driver available if it's not somethng Windows knows by default.
Some network printers (Like Xerox, Sharp) want an intermediate "print
monitor" installed. I'd go to the Internet for the manufacturer and download
the software and user installation guide.
