Network places missing

Gary

I did a reinstall of Windows XP SP2 and File and Settings Transfer
Wizard would not recognize my data source files.

One of the "Expert" recomendations found through Google recommended
uninstalling Update for Windows XP (KB896344. Bad Move. My network
places disappeared and I can't get them back. Re-installing Update for
Windows XP (KB896344) did not help. Running Wireless Nework Wizard
didn't help. I now have 2 networks. But when I click start, Network
places is missing. When I open my computer I see Network places in the
Side Bar, but when I click on it, all I see is the networks, no access
to folders and files. Is there anyway to get back Access to my Network
places without taking down my network or reinstalling windows?

BTW, I found the problem with FAST data store. The Status file has been
corrupted. Is there anyway to repair it so I can recover my files and
settings?

To place a shortcut to My Network Places on your Desktop...
Right click the Desktop | Desktop tab | Customize Desktop button |
Place a checkmark in the box next to My Network Places |
Click OK | Click Apply | Click OK

You can also right click the Desktop | Point to New and click Shortcut |
Paste this in the box:

%windir%\explorer.exe ::{208D2C60-3AEA-1069-A2D7-08002B30309D}

Click Next | Name it: My Network Places and click Finish.

Well, I did get My Network Places back on the start Menu. But when I
click on it I am in the same place as before. I cannot see my shared
folders or files. Any other suggestions?

Any suggestions on fixing the Status file in USMT2.UNC so that FAST can
open my data store files?

No luck with either suggestion. Opens a Window but it is empty of
folders and files. Any more suggestions?
