Network Monitoring Tools on Workstations

O

Odessa

Is it possible to install the Network Monitoring Tool on a
Windows 2000 Professional Workstation?

I have attempted this more than once, and there are many
files it asks for on the Service Pack 4 cd which do not
seem to be on the CD or on my hard drive.

There seems to be no information about this on the
Microsoft sites.

The version that comes with Windows 2000 server will not run on a Windows 2000 pro box. If you have SMS, this version will
work on the pro box. Lastly, if you happen to have a XP CD handy there is a command line version of Netmon call netcap that
will work on W2k pro. It's only useful for taking traces though, not reading them. Just install the support tools off the XP cd on the
W2k box and netcap will be installed.

Thank you,

Officially not supported, but a workaround:

If you have a W2K server installation available, copy the netmon directory
to youre W2K pro client and copy this at the same location on youre W2K pro
client, add the net mon directory to youre systempath, reboot the W2K pro
client and start netmon.exe........here you go......

Ben.
