Network Location Awareness Service

P

Peter

I have a conflift between the NLA service and Norton
Internet Security. If I disable NLA norton loads. If I
enable NLA during boot up I get error message 'Error.
Cannot connect to file system. Service not running'
I have spent a couple of weeks back and forth with
Symantec to no avail. They suggest that I change the load
order of the NLA service.
2 Questions.
1.- do I need to run the NLA Service (it is on a laptop
which is either networked via cable or wireless to a pc
at home dependant on where I feel like working and
connecting to the internet or sometimes used to connect
independantly to the internet at other locations)
2.- how do I alter the load order of NLA

Hope someone can help. Symantec don't seem to be able to.

Peter.

If you aren't using XPs firewall or ICS, you do not even need the NLA
service. If so, set it to disabled.

Start | Run | Type: services.msc | OK |
Scroll down to and double click: Network Location Awareness (NLA) |
Startup type: Disabled | Apply | OK | Close Services.

I have already disabled NLA and havent noticed any
problems so far. I couldn't understand why the error was
showing as I had exactly the same setup on a previous
laptop that I inadvertantly blew up and Symantec were
less than helpful really, just sending me round in
circles with links to various help pages.

Thanks for your info. I will carry on without NLA enabled.
