Network Game Problems

Hey,

Was trying to play Age of Empires II last night with my flatmate, but his PC kept freezing before we could even start a game.

Both PC's are fast enough (obviously, it's an old game! ), but mine runs XP Home and his runs Vista. I have never had it crash and i've played it loads. Just installed it on his PC the other day and he can play it fine, although it crashes every so often.

Is this likely to be a XP - Vista problem, any suggestions of what we could try?

It does sound like some sort of compatibility problem, I've had that when trying a few older network games. Are they fully patched?
