network funnies

Hi, I am running Vista & connected to W2K3 domain. I have a few funnies I
wonder if anyone could shed some light onto.

When going to manage network connections my LAN connection which is
connected via CAT5 & working identifies that it is connected to my domain
but shows with a small red cross against it... Is this correct?

Also when opening Outlook 2007 which connectes to an Exchange 2003 server
the client sits there for about 2 mins saying "Trying to connect to
Microsoft Exchange" then kicks in & syncs...

I think there are some network component funnies going on...

The steps I have taken so far is to remove IPv6 from the LAN connection &
disabled TCP AutoTuning by running the following command ;

netsh int tcp set global autotuninglevel=disable

Any one have any ideas?

1. the red x could be autodisconnect issue. Check this search result for
more details.

configure autodisconenctTo fix this issue, you can re-configure
AutoDisconnect time. ... Why some mapped network drives show a red x.

2. "Trying to connect to Microsoft Exchange" could be Cached Exchange
mode issue. Check the Outlook settings.

Hi Robert,

Thanks for the reply, not sure if the autodisconnect is related to the NIC
issue.

Another thing to add, atm I am running through a wireless connection with
the NIC unplugged, the LAN connection is showing as "network cable
unplugged" which is correct but with no red cross (which i would expect to
see)

If the wireless network connection is not connected that reads as "Not
connected" with a red cross... its like its gone back to front???
