network fails to "see" computer

Just set up a wired network with a laptop running XP PRO SP2 and desktop
running XP Home SP1, belkin router.
the router recognises 2 compters on the network and I can access the laptop
from the desktop but not vice versa. I have configured Norton I Security 05
to allow the IP addresses of both on each machine.
Any thoughts welcomed?
