Network Drive Icons in My Computer Keep Changing

Does anyone know why the mapped network drives I have in My Computer
keep changing from "green" to "red" (connected vs. disconnected, even
though they aren't disconnected and when I double-click on them, I'm
able to see the contents just fine)? This is really bugging me. It
also happens to shortcut icons that I have on my Desktop and anywhere
else that I have shortcuts that are to mapped network drives.

I believe that a network drive that has not been used for a while will
disconnect itself (so you're not using network bandwidth for a
connection that is not in use). When you open them, you're telling the
computer that you want to use the connection, so it reconnects it for
you.
