"Network did not assign this computer an IP address"/can't find router in control panel

Hi all,

Having a problem setting up a home network. The network I set up
through the router utility delivers the internet but didn't allow
filesharing. The network I set up through WZC appears in the list of
wireless networks, but reports limited or no connectivity because "the
network did not assign this computer an IP address". The fixes I've
found on-line all begin by making adjustments to the wireless router's
settings under Network Connections. It doesn't appear there and the
router does not appear in device manager. Any suggestions?

The details are as follows: I've got a NetgearWGT624v3 router on one
computer and a Belkin Wireless G USB network adapter connected to the
other. With both networks, I'm running WEP security, I've got SP1 and
SP2 installed. I'm also running the free version of zonealarm, Norton
Antivirus, Spybot Search & Destroy. Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Thanks,
The reasons that I got such a message when I was setting up my network were:

1. Incorrect key for WEP. It is quite difficult to get this thing right.

2. ZA not passing ICMP packets.

3. Computer not set to use DHCP.

There are probably lots of others.

Thanks for the help! I got rid of the "did not assign an ip address"
message by going to the "Zones" tab on ZoneAlarm's "firewall" tab and
entering the ip address of the client computer into the 'trusted
zones'. Still having issues, but I'm going to ask about those in a new
post.

Thanks again,

Jon
