Network Connections/Mappings dropped

James de Freitas

Out Domain Server recently died and I implemented a new
Domain Server. Since then, my PC W2K Pro SP4 has been
losing its mappings and network connection randomly during
the day and night.

We have 2 networks: 1- domain controller (w2K Adv Server)
and 2- W2k Adv Server PC, with a workgroup; my PC links
to both networks via 2 NIC's

I have followed all the suggestions and set Autodisconnect
to 8171 years, as well as the max on the server, but it
makes no difference.

All backups occur during the night, using a scsi tape
drive on my PC and every night it fails when the
connections go down during the backup.

I have not seen any evidence of this occuring on any other
PC in our network. I am at my wits end, as we have no
effective backups being taken; in additions all of my
apps use a mapped drive on the server for data, and they
keep crashing as the drives go offline

Heeeeeeeeeeellllllllllppppppppppppp

When you built the new DC, did you recreate the domain from scratch or use a restore of the system state? If it was a rebuild
from scratch, you will need to remove you W2k pro box from the domain and add it back so that the secure channel is reset.
Next, when you loose your mapped drives do you loose connectivity too? Can you ping the server by name or IP address?
Aree there any messages in the event logs that would indicate a problem? Please post this and any other useful info in your
reply.

Thank you,
Mike Johnston

The new DC was rebuilt from scratch on a new PC; I have
checked the event logs for weeks looking for a clue, but
nothing shows up; I have now disabled the 2nd nic to see
if my connections stay on-line

When the mappings go 'Red', sometimes I can double click
on them and get them back, and other time I have to go
through my network to do so; pinging sees the other PC's
