Network connection troubles

My lap top, recently had to have the whole OS re-installed because recovery wouldn't work. Since that happened, naturally everything got deleted off the computer, so now I can't set up my internet connection on the laptop. The wireless network connection shows up fine, and when I go to create a new internet connection, the wizard goes through and does it, but no new connection comes up in the Network connections. Is there some reason why it's not coming up?
