Network connected, but unable to share folder or use printer

I recently purchase a Toshiba laptop running Windows XP, we also have a
desktop computer running XP. I've connected my laptop to the internet using
a wireless router and wanted to be able to access our office printer using a
wireless network. I purchase a USB network adapter (wireless) for the
desktop PC which is connected to the printer. Both computers say they are
connected to the wireless network, I've run the Network wizard on both PCs,
selected "share printer" in the printer settings, selected "share file" on my
folders... but I can't get the two computers to access each other and I still
can't access the printer. What am I missing? I've gone through Microsoft's
step by step instructions from the web. Do I need MORE hardware for this to
work. I thought a router and network adapter would do the trick.

You have enough equipment. Let's get it to work properly.

Define "... I can't get the two computers to access each other ...".
# Can't see the computer, in My Network Places?
# Can't get a list of files, when you click on a share?
# Can't access individual files?
And the complete text of any error message would be good.

One of the most common causes of this problem would be a misconfigured or
overlooked personal firewall, or other security component. There are several
other possibilities too, and any might be the cause of your problem. Read this
article with an open mind.

Or we could look at "browstat status", "ipconfig /all", "net config server", and
"net config workstation", from each computer, and diagnose the problem. Read
this article, and linked articles, and follow instructions precisely (download
browstat!):

i have had the same problem for some time now, but i think with the links you
posted i can figure it out now.
