Network card stops working after SP2 Install

All,

Installed SP2 on the computer and found that my Network
Card has stopped working. In device manager I get a
device cannot start (code 10) error.

Thought it might need a fresh install. Blew the HDD away
and did a fresh install of XP. Card returned to being
workable and all was okay. Installed SP2 again and the
card then went Code 10 again.

I've installed all latest BIOSes and drivers for the
motherboard (Gigabyte 6VXD7).

Why would the card stop working? What does a code 10 mean
precisely? Theres no other devices on the PCI bus, so has
the PCI bus stopped working.

I don't understand why SP2 would nuke hardware that was
working fine.

Any help would be much appreciated.

What does a code 10 mean precisely?
It means that the driver attempts to start but fails because it doesn't like something.
Please open your event log and look for a message(s) from this driver that
will explain why exactly it failed.
Then send this info to the tech support of the manufacturer of the netcard.

This has happened on two different Network cards from two
different manufacturers both times using the latest
drivers available.

There is no indication in the event logs of an error
occurring at all.

This has only happened since the SP2 install. What does
SP2 do to Network cards or the PCI/Plug and Play setup?

Hi there, I have recently found this problem with SP2
myself. I have installed a 3com card to boot an intel
system to get the drivers for it's onboard NIC. After
remioving the 3com, I tried to use the intel card, then a
third card with no luck. Pluging back the 3com, all is
well..Spen hours trying to figure this ine out..gave up..

This is very strange. Then it might be a problem with the specific software configuration
on your machine (various 3rd party "intermediate drivers", "filters" and other pests).
Unlikely that it could be a general problem with SP2.
