Netlogon Error

Vinod Pote

HI,
I'm facing a wierd problem in our Windows 2000 Server. The
Server is running with Active Directory,DNS and Exchange
2000 almost from 2 months without any problem. From last 3
days I'm getting this error....

The Netlogon 5774 error message is logged in the System
event log when the Netlogon service on a domain controller
cannot register an individual resource record. The event
description contains the name of this resource record and
other DNS parameters that are used for the registration
attempt, for example:

Event Type: error
Event Source: NETLOGON
Event Category: None
Event ID: 5774
Date: 12/2/2003
Time: 8:27:03 PM
User: N/A
Computer: My_domain
Description:
Registration of the DNS record 'corp.my_domain.com. 600 IN
A 192.168.4.1' failed with the following error:
DNS server unable to interpret format.

Data:
0000: 29 23 00 00 )#..

The other Windows 2k Professional Clients in same domain
when try to browse My Network Places -->Entire Network--
Entire contents-->Microsoft Windows Network-->my_domain--
it gives error saying "My_domain is not accessable The
Server is not configured for transcations"
Bur all clients login with their Usernames and Password
also they are able to Browse Internet only they can't
locate domain Resources amd other computers from My
Network Places.

When I do the same from same windows 2000 server(Domain
Controller) My Network Places -->Entire Network-->Entire
contents-->Microsoft Windows Network-->my_domain-->it
gives all listed host names.

Please help me to solve this prolem.

Regards

Check for the presence of Admin shares on the machine in question by typing
net share at a command prompt. The error "the Server is not configured for
transcations" has occurred in numerous instances when the IPC$ and other
admin shares are not present. If they are not present this could be an
indication of a trojan virus.

There is a KB article that addresses that error. It is 259277
Troubleshooting Netlogon Event 5774, 5775, and 5781
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=259277

Sometimes you will see failures when a DC points to itself for DNS. The
netlogon service will try to register the SRV records before the DNS service
is running on the DC. You can disregard the error if it only occurs on
boot.
