NETLOGON Error 5720

R

Richard Kaplan

I am unable to login to a domain that the computer is
joined to. I am receiving NETLOGON Error Event ID: 5720

"The session setup to the Windows NT or Windows 2000
domain controller XXX for the domain XXX failed because
the computer XXX does not have a local security database
account."

When I try to unjoin the computer from the domain, I get
the error message:

"The following error occured attempting to unjoin the
domain XXX:
The revision level is unknown."

What has happened to the system and how can I correct the
problem?

Hi Richard,

This problem can occur because of a computer security identifier (SID)
mismatch or a misconfiguration that can be caused by third-party products
that are used for imaging and changing computer SIDS.

The changes to the SID may be transferred to a Windows 2000 Professional
installation during the upgrade process from a Windows NT 4.0-based
computer that may have been imaged incorrectly. By design, the security
hive and the features are not changed during Windows NT or Windows 2000
upgrade paths.

To resolve this problem, reinstall the operating system.

Thanks for using Microsoft News Group!

Sincerely,

Steven Liu
