NetBEUI support for Remote Access under XP

I am aware the Microsoft has an unsupported driver for NetBEUI which
will run under XP.

I am also aware that the driver does not support Remote Access.

Are there any 3rd party hacks available that will allow NetBEUI with
Remote Access under WinXP?

We need to provide legacy support for a large number of customer systems
that are running on NT 4.0 platforms. Remote access to the customer's
system was setup using NetBEUI. We can dial into the customer's system
to retrieve diagnostic information via Windows Explorer.

Updating these customer systems to XP is totally out of the question. We
need to provide support to them for several more years before we
obsolete the systems.

Our current solution is to simply have an old dedicated computer that
runs NT 4.0 and NetBEUI to dial-in to the customer's system and retrieve
the files. It would be MUCH nicer if we could use any of our current XP
systems to do the job.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Gary Edstrom

I am personally of the belief that sooner or later you just have to accept
you've taken an old system as far as you can go with it, so I don't have a
solution (though I wonder why you couldn't at least update the NT4.0 systems
your customers have to work with TCP/IP as a nice medium term interim step).

I may be able to suggest a better 'work-around' however.

Download a copy of Virtual PC, and use this to give everyone who needs it a
'virtual' NT4 machine, which they can use from their own desktops to do what
they have to do.

Virtual PC is a free program from Microsoft and you can grab it at
www.microsoft.com/virtualpc

NetBEUI is a non-routable protocol that, as far as I'm aware, is only
suitable for file and print sharing on a local network. It is not suitable
for any situation where traffic must be routed from point A to point B.
