net use with laser printers

I have been sucessfully been using the net use command with XP OS's for dot
matrix printers.
I can't seem to make it work with a Brother Laser HL-1440.
Is it because of some bi-directional communication?
My syntax is as follows
net use lpt1: \\computername\hl1440 /persistent:yes
Thanks

Do you need to use LPT1: specifically? Most WIndows can print directly to
\\computer\name\hl1440, providing you also install the drivers for the
printer into Windows.

Yes, I need to use LPT1 to 3. The windows software uses a DOS window for
printing receipts, the windows printers are not an option. I have been
installing the panasonic 1081 on the local machine, then using NET use to
redirect LPT1 to the other puter.

Just a thought. . .

Is the panasonic connected to the computer you are trying to perform the net
use command on for lpt1??? If so, lpt1 is reserved for the local port!
You will have to move the panasonic to a different computer that will not
print DOS based jobs to lpt1 and share it from there.
