Hello all,

I am using windows 2000 pro and want to install SQL express. Before I do
this, I have to install .net framework 2. I found the download here:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...CB-4362-4B0D-8EDD-AAB15C5E04F5&displaylang=en

And downloaded the file named dotnetfx.exe. I did not receive any errors.
When finished, there were two windows updates to framework 2. I then
restarted machine. I can no longer get the microsoft webpages or google
websites.

Did I install the wrong version? What do I need to do to fix it? I can't
get into microsoft or google to troubleshoot!! I can't install SQL Express
if I can't get into the site. Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Hi Gale,

I think your problem is completely unrelated to installing .Net
Framework. What updates did you install afterwards? Is it only internet
explorer that doesn't work? Does it work at all? Do other browsers, like
Firefox or Opera work?

Hello,

The two updates were for .net framework 2:

KB917283 and KP922770. They are both security updates.

Sorry, I should have answered all the questions. I don't know if any other
browsers work, I have only one browser on that machine. I can get other
sites, but not any Microsoft sites and no google sites. I should note that
after I uninstalled .net framework 2, that everything is fine now. I can
get the sites again. Maybe the download didn't download everything properly?
I am almost afraid to try again in case something else happens and I lose
the whole machine.

Hm,

I have those two updates on my XP SP2 as well. I don't see how the
installation should affect IE, but you may want a IE group (not sure where
they reside) or one of the windows.server groups.

Fixed it. What happens is that the download somehow corrupted my profile.
After making myself a new one. Everything works fine.
