.NET Compact Framework for Symbian OS

O

Olivier HAULT

I have to smile ! According to me the question is not about to sell it or
not, but to give a chance for .NET Compact Framework in phone market. Have
you already take a look at the community and programs available when you buy
a P900 at your prefered store. Software market will be driven by plateforms
available and currently MS smartphone has nothing to compare to Windows on
PC. For ISV, the choice is clear on what platform to develop for when you
want to reach the maximum number of users. That's also why .NET Compact
Framework should be materialized for others embedded OS and why Microsoft is
not doing it himself (for any good reason) could give us the necessery
ressource for build it. Now for an end user point of view, it's clear that
the runtime could only be free.

The ability to obtain a framework, whenther purchased or free, for something
like Palm or Symbian could be very compelling for enterprises with a lot of
capital and support wrapped up in non-MS OS hardware.

As for licensing issues - I'm not a lawyer and won't hazard a guess.
