Hi Carla,
There are atleast five causes why the Welcome Screen does not appear:
* Welcome Screen and Fast User Switching are disabled in Control Panel > User Accounts [Does not apply in your case]
* Terminal Service / Fast User Switching Services are disabled.
* Welcome Screen has been modified by a custom GINA DLL
* Your computer is configured to work in a Domain.
* Policies are configured. [Set to use Classic Logon]
Solution for Case 2: Make sure Terminal Services / Fast user Switching Services are enabled and running.
Solution for Case 3: Use MVP Doug Knox's utility to fix the Welcome screen.
http://www.dougknox.com/xp/scripts_desc/fix_xp_logon.htm: [Fix Logon/Restore Welcome Screen]. This should reset the default GINA in registry.
Solution for Case 4: Click Start/Run/type "sysdm.cpl". Computer Name > Change > Set it to "Workgroup"

My daughter was messing with the computer and now we have to click log off or switch user and the password screen comes up. I want to change it back to the welcome screen to be able to choose the icon instead of logging off and tying name. Can anyone help?
I have both of the boxes checked in the user account screen and still am not getting the welcome screen with pics
